I don'...Thanks Madge, for that beautiful lesson. I don't mean to imply that all wealthy people are not generous. I think the ones who came upon it by hard work have generosity of spirit and impart that to their children.

There are some that have this sense of entitlement, the ones who never get their hands dirty, who, in my opinion, are missing out on some valuable life lessons. Paris Hilton comes to mind.Hollye Dexterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10184998678584429429noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-488757155668840939.post-89331748877619966682011-06-29T19:19:53.762-07:002011-06-29T19:19:53.762-07:00Hollye, so beautifully written. Loved this but eve...Hollye, so beautifully written. Loved this but even as my family became upwardly mobile I was always taught generosity of spirit. I was taught it is not what you have but what you give to others that matters. Some very, very rich practice that adage as well and they support so many great causes when they could just sit back and rest on their laurels (Gates, Spielbergs, Zuckerberg and lots of the richest in the world). They have made dreams come true here in the US and in third world countries. It is the wealthy that are stingy (and there are plenty) of those as well. But in the old testament their is a Jewish ritual called "Tzedakah is a Hebrew word commonly translated as charity, though it is based on the Hebrew word (צדק, tzedek) meaning righteousness, fairness or justice. In Judaism, tzedakah refers to the religious obligation to perform charity, and philanthropic acts, which Judaism emphasises are important parts of living a spiritual life" and this is taught at the earliest age and becomes a way of life for some Jewish people. I feel connected to this from my parents and I imparted to my kids and see them doing the same for theirs. I, too, hope the lessons are learned for a while for your family so you can breathe and enjoy the moon and the stars.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-488757155668840939.post-53605377823715560542011-06-29T19:18:46.893-07:002011-06-29T19:18:46.893-07:00Great collumn.
